South Korean reporters televised an investigative report on the World Mission Society Church of God in 1999. The video provides documentary proof that the World Mission Society Church of God believed and taught members that the world would end in 1999. It also proves that the WMSCOG has a long history of:

  • destroying families
  • instilling fear in members with fear-mongering videos
  • convincing members to give large amounts of money, even if it means selling their homes and taking out loans
  • claiming that a nuclear explosion will destroy the earth
  • claiming that only Zion (WMSCOG churches) will be saved
  • convincing members that they will get a call from the General Assembly (Headquarters in South Korea) when the end comes

The reporters go into the WMSCOG undercover, after being denied entry. The reporters even visit Zahng Gil Jah’s apartment (before she moved into the “Jerusalem Temple”) where the person inside refuses to open the door. The reporters speak to one of Zahng Gil Jah’s family members who claims that when Zhang Gil Jah was just a member of the WMSCOG, she proclaimed that the world would end soon. The family member says that Zahng Gil Jah ultimately divorced her husband after she began attending the WMSCOG. Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.

Last week New York State Governor Cuomo announced that due to the absence of federal guidance on containing the spread of the coronavirus, New York, New Jersey and Connecticut will work together to implement uniform tri-state rules for as long as necessary to protect public health. Among these rules is that there are not to be crowds or gatherings over 50 anywhere. President Trump later advised that gatherings of more than 10 people should be avoided.

Will This Affect World Mission Society Church of God Services?

WMSCOG Coronavirus - Featured

Over the past few weeks, World Mission Society Church of God members have been touting the “protection” of the Passover observance against the coronavirus on social media. According to numerous members, including New Song Radio host Floyd A. Cray, people who observe the Passover “have the ability to feel great and have no fear of this virus.” Other members have posted similar statements such as “all po members of zion..remember that we have protection from elohim god” [sic], “keep the Passover and you don’t have to worry about this,” “Corona Virus? Protection: New Covenant Passover,” etc. on Facebook over the last few weeks. Most recently, members have been posting threats of a “final judgement” that they allege is imminent in efforts to lure new members to the church. Some posts have since been deleted, though the reason why is unknown (View Facebook posts below).

The World Mission Society Church of God has previously claimed that the Passover will protect members from “all disasters” on their official website and in fear mongering videos shown to their members.

Though the World Mission Society Church of God leadership has not officially announced its position regarding the belief that the WMSCOG Passover will protect its members from the coronavirus, current members are certainly under the impression that it will. How will this affect WMSCOG members’ behavior? Will the members take precautions as advised by the government and the CDC? Will the WMSCOG abide by restrictions on crowd size during services and the upcoming Passover ceremony? Last week, the World Mission Society Church of God circulated the following messages among female leadership:

While this may not be the case at every World Mission Society Church of God location, at least the above referenced WMSCOG location is still holding services and there is no mention of limiting the number of attendees. Instead, they are instructing members to leave in between services on the Sabbath. Why is the WMSCOG still holding services and allowing members to leave in between?

How does this affect the community at large?

Because the World Mission Society Church of God teaches that observance of the Sabbath, Passover and a number of other feasts, is required for salvation, members attend at the threat of eternal damnation. In the past when members were ill, they were still expected to attend services and would even bring their sick children to the church if alternative child care could not be arranged. While the World Mission Society Church of God appears to be changing their position on this amidst the recent pandemic, not adhering to the crowd size limitations put in place for prevention and containment of the Covid-19, puts the rest of the community at risk. Is the World Mission Society Church of God really concerned about the well being of non-members and the community at large? After all, Zhang Gil Jah, World Mission Society Church of God’s leader and “god the mother stated in a sermon in 2012, “How Joyful Will It Be Since Only Our Members Will Live While All The Other People Die In The Last Days.”

Any public health concerns should immediately be reported to the local authorities.

For current members reading this…

If you are a current World Mission Society Church of God member reading this, please protect yourself, your family members and the community by following the CDC guidelines on Covid-19. Do not allow the World Mission Society Church of God put you at risk for contracting the coronavirus and possibly infecting someone else, by exploiting coronavirus fears.

The World Mission Society Church of God claims not to preach about disasters in order to influence its members to stay. Victor Lozada, current World Mission Society Church of God Missionary, published an article on June 2, 2016, addressing this issue on his blog “The True WMSCOG.” Mr. Lozada claimed that a news station in Mongolia aired a false report about the local WMSCOG. According to Mr. Lozada, the report claimed that the WMSCOG in Mongolia:

…expanded its congregation by preaching that the world is coming to an end. The Church urges its members to sell their properties like houses, and exploits them for their money. This Church threatens people by preaching about disasters all the time…

thetruewmscog.com

In previous articles, we have examined the WMSCOG’s obvious fear mongering tactics in their pamphlets about the Passover. Former members have spoken out in YouTube videos about being taught that the world would end in 2012. A news station in South Korea broadcasted an investigative report on the WMSCOG’s claim that the world would end in 1999. The World Mission Society Church of God has even shown this video about disasters to members in their congregation.

But what does Zahng Gil Jah say about disasters and the end of the world? Below is an 8 page sermon from Zahng Gil Jah, dated October 27, 2012. Here are some highlights:

  • Like this, if we know that a disaster is coming, it is very important both physically and spiritually to warn people to evacuate. From now on, there will be more earthquakes, and people who survived in the last one might die in the next one.
  • All the arrogant and every evildoer will be set on fire like stubble. The war that can burn them without leaving even a root or a branch is the nuclear war, the WWIII. The Bible records that there is definitely an appointed day when these things will happen.
  • The only medicine that can heal us so that we can survive even in the nuclear war is the Passover bread and wine of the new covenant that Jesus promised us with His flesh and blood. Since God’s flesh and blood remain in us through the Passover bread and wine, the disasters can pass over us. Now the whole world is coming to our Church, being surprised by this news of salvation.
  • How joyful will it be since only our members will live while all the other people die in the last days?
  • No matter how much Gold tells them that what they are keeping is wrong, people do not listen to Him and they do not give their ear to His teachings. So as a result, they will receive a plague.
  • In the Bible, the wind means “war.” Then when will the wind be released? It is when all the children of God are found. If all the children of God receive the seal today, that day will come today, and if they all receive the seal tomorrow, it will come tomorrow, if they all receive the seal next month, that day will come next month.
  • If a nuclear war breaks out between Iran and Israel, North Korea will seize that opportunity and shoot what they have prepared. That day will come on an unexpected day. Since God told us to be ready, we must be ready. It is better to be ready in advance.
  • We must flee to Zion before the disaster comes. Once the disaster comes, people will not be able to flee to Zion even if they want to. And just because we are safe from disasters, we must not sit back and do nothing, but we must lead other people as well so that they will also escape disasters. Then we will receive an award.

Zahng Gil Jah’s statements speak for themselves and her sermon makes it clear that the World Mission Society Church of God does in fact preach about disasters in a way that would promote fear in its members. In this sermon alone, the word disaster or disasters is found 36 times.

Let us fact check the “mother god”.

From now on, there will be more earthquakes, and people who survived in the last one might die in the next one.

“According to the Words of the Prophecies,” by Zahng Gil Jah, page 2

According to the USGS Worldwide Earthquake Statistics below, the total number of earthquakes in 2010 and 2011 were 2,383 and 2,481 respectively. After that, the total number of earthquakes have decreased NOT increased, and have remained below 1900 thus far. The total number of fatalities in 2010 and 2011 were 226,050 and 21,942 respectively. Subsequently, the total number of fatalities has dramatically decreased, remaining below 10,000. The data does not support Zahng Gil Jah’s assertions.

They killed up to 70 million children of God to change God’s commandments to the commands of men-from the Sabbath to the Sunday service and from the Passover to Christmas. It is 70 million officially, so they must have killed even more people unofficially. Babylon did this. Parents bear a grudge even if someone kills only one of their children. But Babylon killed 70 million children of God. That is why it says that their sins are piled up to heaven.

“According to the Words of the Prophecies,” by Zahng Gil Jah, page 7

The World Mission Society Church of God commonly refers to the Catholic Church as “Babylon.” Zahng Gil Jah is referring to the deaths that resulted from past actions of Catholic Church, such as the Spanish Inquisition and the Crusades. The estimated executions in Spain during the Inquisition is about 32,000, the area most affected. The death toll from the Crusades is estimated to be from 1.7 million to as high as 9 million and included people of other faiths such as Muslims, Cathars and Jews. The available data simply does not support Zahng Gil Jah’s claim that 70 millionchildren of god” died as a result of the Catholic Church’s actions.

Just as in Part 1 of this series, here is another brochure that the World Mission Society Church of God has utilized in their public recruitment efforts. At first glance, it appears to be a predominantly religious brochure about the Passover. Like the first pamphlet, there is a picture of Jesus at the Last Supper. Numerous Bible verses are seen throughout. Yet, a closer look at the pamphlet, reveals that this is nothing more than another piece of fear mongering WMSCOG propaganda.

“The Passover is the Sign, Through Which We Can Escape Disasters”

Take a closer look…

GLOBAL WARM…”, “CLIMATE AT RI…”, “THE HORROR THATTHE COURSE OF WORLD…” and “FIRE FROM THE…” are all phrases that can be seen in the right upper hand corner of the pamphlet. What is seen at the bottom left hand corner? What appears to be a pile of dead bodies.

What is on the reverse side of the brochure?

The title of the brochure, seen on the outer fold of the pamphlet, reads “THE RESULT OF YOUR THOUGHTS.” The folded brochure opens to reveal the phrase “THE DIFFERENCE OF THOUGHTS BRINGS ABOUT OPPOSITE RESULTS.” These phrases communicate that your thoughts, even before you read this material, are wrong and are leading you on the wrong path. The yin and yang comparison contained in the image between the golden ladder to heaven, and the ladder that was destroyed by lightning, suggests that there is only a right or wrong choice to be made. The choice that leads to heaven, as the World Mission Society Church of God has conveniently positioned themselves to be, and the wrong choice that leads to “disasters.”

What is the purpose of these dark images?

The title of the inner section of the brochure is “The Passover is the Sign, Through Which We Can Escape Disasters.” From this title, and associated imagery, it is obvious that the WMSCOG has created a sense of fear and impending doom, while at the same time conveniently marketing itself as the only solution. How could the World Mission Society Church of God be the “true church”, as its members claim, if they have to scare people into joining?

Note that just as in the first pamphlet, there is no mention of Ahn Sahng Hong or Zhang Gil Jah.

It has been well established by a court in South Korea that the World Mission Society Church of God falsely predicted that the world would end in 1988, 1999 and 2012. Despite the evidence, the WMSCOG continues to deny that they ever taught the world was going to end in 2012. I recently came across a pamphlet that the World Mission Society Church of God circulated during public recruitment activities. At first glance, the brochure titled “Passover The Sign of Salvation” (scroll to the bottom for the full brochure) appears to be full of religious dogma about the Passover. But when you take a closer look, another message emerges.

“FIRE FROM THE SKY”, “AIDS”, extremely malnourished children, people who appear to be screaming and what is presumably a depiction of a nuclear explosion in the bottom right corner. The World Mission Society Church of God denies that they use fear to control its members. What other purpose could this graphic serve other than to instill feelings of fear in whoever reads it? Underneath the graphic, in large bold letters, is written:

In any age, God’s people who kept the Passover were saved, being able to escape disasters under the protection of God.

The obvious take away message here is that unless you take part in the Passover as a World Mission Society Church of God member, you will suffer through the disasters depicted on the pamphlet.

Doesn’t it say to fear God in the Bible?

It is true that there are various verses such as Luke 12:5, 1 Peter 2:17 and many others that say to fear God. But the Bible also says “For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind” (2 Timothy 1:7) and “There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves torment. But he who fears has not been made perfect in love” (1 John 4:18). Therefore, while the Bible says that you should fear God, your faith in God should not be motivated by, or based upon, that fear. If you are a member of the World Mission Society Church of God, seriously consider if what the WMSCOG teaches is faith based on fear instead of love for God.

Who is missing from this pamphlet?

It is interesting to note that there is a picture of Jesus and his disciples at the Last Supper, but there is no mention of Ahn Sahng Hong or Zahng Gil Jah on the pamphlet. Why was the man who the World Mission Society Church of God claims to have “restored the Passover” not mentioned on a pamphlet about the Passover? If faith in Zhang Gil Jah is required for salvation, why is she not mentioned on the pamphlet? Is it because the mention of the people that the WMSCOG believes to be the “father” and “mother” gods would raise red flags among any prospective recruits they may encounter and perhaps cause them to research the group before agreeing to join? Recruitment materials that contain these kinds of subliminal messages and selectively omit the true deities that the World Mission Society Church of God believes in, are egregiously manipulative and deceptive.

This article is dedicated to all of those who were taught the world would end in 2012.

bridegroom-tarries-cover

In his book The Bridegroom Was A Long Time In Coming, And They All Fell Asleep, Ahn Sahng Hong, the man the World Mission Society Church of God (WMSCOG) claims was the Second Coming of Jesus, predicted the end of the world in 2012.  These writings are in line with others that have been removed from WMSCOG books.  The Bible tells us that failed predictions are the sign of a false prophet (Deuteronomy 18:21-22) and besides Ahn Sahng Hong contradicting Scripture in numerous places, his 2012 failed prediction is yet another very clear indication that he could not have been Jesus.

The New Covenant Passover Church of God (NCPCOG), the original church founded by Ahn Sahng Hong of which his son is an elder, has made the book, among others, available on their website in Korean.  (Incidentally they have another website with pictures of Ahn Sahng Hong with his original church, his family, his handwritten notes that the WMSCOG does not have, etc).  We have taken the liberty of providing a translation out of the original book, and the failed 2012 prediction from Chapter 5, below:

제5 장 모세가 십계명을 두 번째 받은 것과 예언
Chapter 5, Moses receiving the Ten Commandments for the second time and the prophecy

[Paragraph 1]
They built the tabernacle when Moses received the Ten Commandments for the second time, as a prophetic foreshadow of Jesus entering the heavenly Most Holy for the second time on October 22, 1844, which is the Day of Atonement on the 10thday of the 7th month (referring to the Hebrew calendar).

Moses received the Ten Commandments on the 10th day of the 7th month (Biblical/Hebrew calendar) and began to build the tabernacle and on the first day of the following year the ceremony of laying the ark in the tabernacle was held. (Exodus 40:1-17)

[Paragraph 2]
Moses receiving the Ten Commandments for the second time is prophesying that Jesus will enter a second time into the heavenly Most Holy.

Moses received the second Ten Commandments on the 10th day of the 7th month and began to build the tabernacle, and on the first day of the following year the ceremony was held for laying the ark of the testimony in the tabernacle.

Since the day that the Ten Commandments was received, it took 168 days to build the tabernacle and to hold the ceremony, and as the fulfillment of this prophecy, Jesus also went into the heavenly Most Holy on the 10th day of the 7th month in 1844 which is the Day of Atonement, and since then began to build the heavenly temple for 168 days namely 168 days until the ceremony.

[Paragraph 3]
The prophecy is to be interpreted as 1 day to 1 year (Ezekiel 4:6; Numbers 14:34).

Therefore, adding 168 years to 1844 when Jesus entered the heavenly Most Holy, 2012 becomes the last day.

[Paragraph 4]
But you cannot help thinking about the words that the days will be shortened for the sake of the elect. (Matthew 24:22)

For the year 1844 issue, it’s specifically recorded on page 315 of “Bible Handbook” authored by Ahn Byung Han who is recognized by other biblical scholars, also on page 205 of “Great conflict of each era II”

[Paragraph 5, top of page 17. Passages translated from NIV version.]
(Matthew 24:22) “If those days had not been cut short, no one would survive, but for the sake of the elect those days will be shortened.”

By the content of these words’ meaning it is clearly apparent that there is a set date, and as it is written,

[Paragraph 6]
(Matthew 25:5-6) “The bridegroom was a long time in coming, and they all became drowsy and fell asleep.”

in this verse, it is certainly clear that the date is set.

[Paragraph 7]

Before I explain the second issue, analyze the prophecy of 40 years and the year 1988 as the last day as recorded in “The mystery of God and the fountain of life” book on pages 7-12 (Pages 1-6 of the 2004 edition of “The mystery of God and the fountain of life”) also study the verse, “the bridegroom was a long time in coming” and the date he will be delayed .

Conclusion

Despite multiple failed end of the word predictions, some members of the WMSCOG hold fast to their beliefs.  Other members have awoken and realized that these failed predictions and any denials that they were ever made, are indicative of errors that exist within the doctrine, and have decided to free themselves of the spiritual captivity they once experienced.

This article is dedicated to a young woman whose brother is caught up in the WMSCOG.  May he and his family soon return to Jesus Christ.

After first discovering the 1988 doomsday flyer and documenting the World Mission Society Church of God’s attempts at damage control over this issue, it became clear that it deserved a second look.

The Flyer

Church of God Ahn Sahng Hong Witnesses Association, was an early name used by Ahn Sahng Hong’s church (the man the WMSCOG claims was their founder, a claim they share with the NCPCOG).  While the authenticity of the flyer can not be confirmed, there are a number of factors which provide corroboration to support that it is in fact authentic:

  • Ahn Sahng Hong predicted the end of the world in 1988 in his own book.
  • Some of the arguments in this flyer are still used by WMSCOG members today (e.g. the argument about Israel or fleeing to Zion).
  • The wording and tone of the flyer mirror very closely the language of some WMSCOG members today.
  • The WMSCOG has a Bible Study called “Jonah’s Prophecy” where they try to excuse Ahn Sahng Hong’s 1988 prediction, so they themselves in their own study attest to Ahn Sahng Hong’s 1988 prediction.

Tinged with Seventh Day Adventist folklore, the flyer pleads with the reader to flee to “Zion, the city of our appointed feasts“.  In typical SDA and WMSCOG fashion, they cannot help but take a parting shot at established Christianity with overly dramatic language like “you have got deceived“, “ravenous wolves“, “tricks“, and “incredible rumors“.

The most hypocritical line of all, “one who deceives one thing is a man who deceives everything“.  The World Mission Society Church of God’s teachings are very much at odds with what Ahn Sahng Hong believed. The WMSCOG’s doctrine is so much at odds that they have had to delete entire chapters from Ahn Sahng Hong’s books in order to keep up the “mother god” charade. It is incomprehensible that anyone would believe in the teachings of such a deceptive organization.

If One Thing Is Wrong, It Is All Wrong

For an organization that claims to be led by the “mother god”, a woman living in Korea named Zahng Gil Jah who is also the Chairperson of the International We Love U Foundation, the WMSCOG has some glaring problems with their claims:

More End of the World Speak

In 2005, a South Korean Court documented the WMSCOG’s numerous failed doomsday predictionsNumerous online platforms, new and old, have documented the WMSCOG’s most recent failed 2012 doomsday prediction.  The WMSCOG keeps predicting the end of the world and keeps getting it wrong.
