Hello! Can someone please tell me when Passover falls this year? I looked it up and some say Monday April 14 and others say Tuesday April 15, which is correct? Why the different dates? When is the WMS celebrating it? Thank You!

Curious1ParticipantI.ve heard sunday the 13th

emilParticipantFrom my search it appears that the Jewish Passover begins at sundown on April 14th. That probably accounts for the two different dates you got. Don't know when the wmscog intends to celebrate. Their official website does not publish their liturgical calendar.

MountainMomParticipantI know you are right Emil, about when the Jewish Passover is. But this year, for some reason, the wmsmcog is celebrating it on the 13th, which is a Sunday. I have a lot of ideas about why they are doing that, but it would only be my opinion.

SmurfParticipantJewish Passover, along with all jewish fiests, is based on the movement of the moon/sun.
What is the WMS-passover based on, and why do they have to calculate it every single year?
Celestial bodies don't change their axis or orbits that frequently ๐
February 12, 2014 at 3:09 PM #66123
MountainMomParticipantGood Question, Fried Rice. I wasn't aware that the wmscog set their own date for Passover before. I thought it was always on the same date as Jewish Passover in the past, but I haven't paid close attention to the date. One thing I do know is that a current member told me it is on the 13th this year.

Love'n HoneyParticipantMM-
As I learned in a very long study session with Pastor Brian, they claim to use the same calendar as the Jews. But their Feasts land a day early because a day is from sunrise to sunrise to the WMSCOG while a day is from sundown to sundown to the Jews. Or maybe it's the other way around.. Either way, they have the same calendar but use it differently, if that makes sense.
I'm going to verify the sunrise/sundown issue just so I won't confuse anyone.

Love'n HoneyParticipantI can't copy and paste the text so you're going to have to visit the link yourself. But I was correct. The WMSCOG follows the sunrise theory.

Well, what do you know ๐
It's my day off! LoL

MountainMomParticipantHey, Fried Rice, I'm glad you have the day off rather than stuck in the Zion!

SmurfParticipantWho knows, maybe I'll pop by for a quick visit ๐
I do miss having my feet washed by money hungry two-faced crooks.
Besides, nothing says Jesus like semi-cooked, bland and gooey rice cakes!

Love'n HoneyParticipantI would love to pay them a visit.

The ChiveParticipantI think they do it a day early because of the time difference. They are going by the Korean time when they observe it, not by the sunset on the actual day.

Love'n HoneyParticipantChive-
That's absolutely not true. They start the ceremony at the relative twighlight. Otherwise, Sabbath would have services on both Friday and Saturday.
February 12, 2014 at 7:09 PM #66132
MountainMomParticipantYou are right, Renita. They don't go by Korean time here. Not for Sabbath or anything. And if you have to do 3 o'clock service and you are somewhere else, you go by the time zone where you are. At least I know of a member who was told that and followed it.
February 12, 2014 at 7:44 PM #66133
x wms brotherParticipantYeah they follow the morning to morning idea. You know that always made me think of Leviticus 23:32 where the scriptures describe how you are to celebrate the Day of Atonement. It is like a sabbath day to be observed from evening to evening, but as long as I was there that was never the case. Is there a reason for this? I never took the time to ask or is it just that they do not observe a sabbath properly? I'm genuinely asking…
February 12, 2014 at 8:32 PM #66134
Love'n HoneyParticipantX WMSB-
The key is the word your. Sabbath with a capital S is the day of rest. But sabbath with a lowercase s is just rest. You take sabbath on the Sabbath. This is how I understand it.
February 12, 2014 at 8:55 PM #66135
MountainMomParticipantSo, they are actually 2 days off on Passover this year? Why?

So the people from New Jersey should be celebrating passover on Monday April 14? or Tuesday April 15? not Sunday April 13 :/

Why are they celebrating passover on a sunday MM??? I'd love to hear your opinion! ๐
February 13, 2014 at 3:43 AM #66137
MountainMomParticipantWell, as I said, I can only guess. But it is possible that they want to avoid the protests that occurred at some Zions last year on Passover. Or that it is easier to get more people from the satellite churches down to the main churches on a weekend, and that leads to some good photo ops that appear to show more people in the main church than there actually is. They exaggerate the numbers of their members often as a strategy, and they love taking pictures of lots and lots of people out in front of the churches to help back this up. It would be easier for people to get away on a weekend for those purposes.

Love'n HoneyParticipantNobody’s Fool-
S Korea is 17 hours ahead of the west side of the US. At 8am Saturday morning in Korea, it’s 3pm Friday afternoon here. Then at 3pm Saturday afternoon in Korea, it’s 10pm Friday evening here. At 7pm Saturday evening in Korea, it’s 2am Saturday morning here.
