I know a member who was encouraged to fast for three days like that, but also encouraged to do longer fasts because the pastor said he did it for five days once, and the mother did it for a week!  Jeez, the pictures of her didn't look like she fasted a day at any time!  Anyway, I believe it is to weaken the members' minds and bodies so they are more susceptible to indoctrination.

A member I know also said he was going to fast to make his wife and mother accept his involvement in the wmscog.  So is it for "spiritual reasons" or as emotional blackmail?  Or both?  He got really weak and sick and couldn't go to work.  His wife and mother were very very upset and he finally quit the fast.  It was pretty traumatic.  The only ones not suffering were the members recruiters and pastors in this case.

It is a fact that destructive cults use this method to control their minds because they can't think straight without food. That way, their lies will stick ot their head and they will be able to easily control the innocent people. Thank God, I love meat a lot.

Sleep deprivation and food deprivation.  Wow, pretty effective tools!  They really have this control methodology down, don't they?

Good Job Hobbit!! lol I use to do the same thing. "pretend" to fast but on my way home I was at the closest Mcdonalds drive-thru

So is NJPAC thier new spot? Seeing as Passover was held there last year. Where they encouraged us to carpool and since I was one of the few in my group that owned a car, I was the chauffeur -__-

Since the wms (at least in NJ) has denied that they "require" members to fast, why do you think that the members feel compelled to do it?

The members might say it's not a requirement but whoever put the Feasts together on that Feast Calendar say it's a requirement. Being that the Feasts come from God, and Zahng is supposedly God, the WMSCOG does indeed require fasting.

But I would say guilt, greed, and hope compells a member to fast. Guilt because mother fasts for days due to our sins. Greed because they want more blessings in heaven (bigger stars, more galaxies). Hope to bring in more fruit or to stop sinning or whatever..

The pastors definitely guilt the members into fasting, even if they don't "require" it directly.  The pastor instructed my family member directly about how important it is to fast. (And my family member takes everything the pastor says as some kind of directive from God)  Three days was presented as a  minimum, but you know, the pastor said he did it for five days, and "Mother" did it for seven!  Right.

The feast calendar only lists a 15 hour fast on it so far as I understand they only deny the other ones claimed where former members are claiming to be forced to fast for 3+ days etc…

The WMSCOG should be more specific.. or perhaps Emily should have been more specific. Bottom line, fasting is required. And I answered in regards to the other fasting sessions you mentioned.

They told me something about incents and prayer. There's a study or sermon or something about fasting and prayer.

Well, they have to wear clothes like the pastor, tithe like the pastor, and be in attendance at all appointed times like the pastor. it follows that if the pastor says he fasts because it will help his "spiritual growth" that they would have to do that as well.  Especially if the pastor explains it to them in a way that guilts them.  How else could someone rise in stature or rank within the church?  How else could someone achieve more "spiritual growth"? (Besides giving loads of money, of course!)

Thanks for the input :).  I wonder if zgj actually participates in the fast.  I mean she's getting pretty old and I have read that she falls asleep during some services.  I guess there is no way to confirm for sure but I wonder if members ever think about this.
