My X-husband has been involved for a few years. He stopped exposing our son to the "church" after I got really upset. He had him baptized without my consent. He now agrees not to discuss it with him, but my son tells me that he tries, but ends up always saying something since it is the only thing going on in his life. I just found out that he has disappeared to Korea for the 2nd time. He has been gone a week & we don't know when he'll return. What happens there? Being his 2nd time I am more concerned. I really hoped he'd be over this by now. He has promised however that if Dec. 2012 is not the end he will leave the WMSCOG.
I don't have a problem with people having their own religions, even if I don't see the validity of it, but there are a few things that make it of high concern. First, is his loss of connection to our son. He used to be a very active Dad and now he has very little interest. Second, he thinks he is invinsible. He says that if he got shot, the bullet would go right through him and not harm him and that he hasn't even gotten a cold since he joined. Three, he thinks "Mother" levitates. Four, he has completely disconnected from any friends not in the church and is pretty distant with his family too.
It is sad for me to see him so distant from our son, but I am trying to think what my real concerns are. Has anyone ever been taken to Korea against their will? I am a little scared he could take our son and disappear, but is that just silly? Would they ever to a Heaven's Gate thing if 12/12 doesn't happen? Besides the person removing themselves from all family and friends & not paying child support, what else have people seen happen to members?

JulieParticipantAnother concern, if I bring up an issue with our son, say he has gotten in trouble at school, my X says that it is the devil trying to distract him when I call to talk about it.

AxelParticipantHello Julie,
Your concerns are completely normal and understandable. I honestly doubt that they would force anyone to go to South Korea. Almost 100% of the time, the members of the WMSCOG go abroad by their own choice(or at least they believe it is their own choice). I am aware your imagination must be running wild with worry and concerns for him and your son, but that may be due to ignorance of the situation so let me try to put you at ease with some information. Please do not be offended, I am only implying that your situation is quite common so do not believe for a second that you are being silly for worrying for the people you care about. I also do agree that this is a very serious matter.
The people who goes to South Korea are mostly kept busy taking pictures, video, going to museums, eating feast after feast, meeting new people and attending many entertaining yet clean activities depending on what kind of schedule they have planned for the members during the time frame. Also they would be studying the teaching of the WMSCOG in between. They will be well fed, kept busy with many activities and taken well care of. Now you may call this conditioning or brainwashing the member's mind to believe or acknowledge and dismiss certain things. I can assure you that the father of your child is having a great time and no physical harm is being done to him unless he does it himself for being silly which may result in a sincere accident. I cannot say anything about his mental state but he is well. I hope this put you at ease. Either way, he will express his experience like "being in Heaven on Earth." This is the most common expression and their resolve to preach this so called Gospel or teachings to save many soul to ease the suffering of their so called "Mother God" or Zahng Gil Ja so they may return "home" or heaven.
Of course your concerns are validated, however he must come to realize the truth on his own. My best advice is to be patient and guide him with care since any negativity, debate or speaking anything ill of the WMSCOG will only cause him to rebel and strengthen his resolve or "faith" in the WMSCOG, for he will believe that you are acting according to Satan's will. I honestly am not fully aware of your situation so I have very little to say in the matters. I do hope this at least released some tension built up in your heart.
If anything, the Bible teaches the people to love your family, wife, husband, children, friends, neighbors and all of creation. It does not teach people to neglect people, animals or others. Of course there are two sides to every story. However he should not neglect his son nor you. He should take responsibilities and his belief of being this "superman" are completely irrational. I can somewhat understand his mental state of being for I was once a member of the WMSCOG as well. I left due to my disgust of how people treat others and how they look down on everyone, which completely contracts their teachings. They seem to love condemning people more than trying to understand and "save" people. However the sad part is that most of them are good people who sincerely believe that they are doing what is right.
Another sad part is that he is blaming this invisible and mysterious devil for the trouble your son gotten into during school. I hope people can just learn to stop blaming others and take responsibilities. His son needs a father for guidance and I assume your son is at an age where he needs a father or someone to look up to as an example, or am I wrong?
However it would be best to communicate with him and share your concerns and views, not trying to change him but try to understand him. I know it is hard but everyone needs to be patient, and let him learn for himself. He is a father so he should understand the love of having a son. Understanding this, maybe you should ask him this question. "What kind of insecurities or ego does the creator of all possess that God wants to be worshipped or given praise? Have you ever thought of that? If God is the creator of all, what can any human possibly offer which will satisfy his needs or desires since he can have anything and anyone as He please? If God is our Father, would He want his children to worship and give Him praise or would he want to care for them instead? Would any father or mother have children to be worshipped or to receive praise or do they have children to take care and love? Do parents have children to be neglected or to guide them as they grow up and become a loving person as the parents are or become their own man or women? something to think about and ask in my opinion.
Either way, I am sorry to hear about the troubles you are having. I hope this somehow helps, even if it is only by a litte. I am sorry I cannot offer much of an assistance. I hope the father of your child will come to realize his foolish behaviors on his own and come to understand that he is neglecting the very people he should be caring for.
I hope all will be well for you and I wish you the best of luck.

This post was written 7 months ago, Can everyone see how this person being a member for years was also told the end of the world would be 2012. Do you see why he feels invinsible, that's what they tell you when you join, that through the passover, just like the Isrealites you are protected, BUT now from what I have read here, the story has been changed (talking about the p/o protecting you spiritually vs physically, which they told him)
He has promised that if 2012 does not happen he will leave the wms. I wonder if he will follow through or will they convience him as many others to stay. What will they tell him now.
I do hope Julie comes back to post the end results!

Love'n HoneyParticipantMysterious, invisible devil? You make him sound insane! He also faults a mysterious, invisible God for the good things that come to pass. My family does the same thing. People all around the world who don’t believe in what the wmscog believes do the same thing. If you believe a God and a devil exist, then you must believe they hold some influence. Whether your God is jesus, jehovah, buddha (if hes a god), zues, whoever.. Some higher being is interfering with our lives and allowing certain situations to come our way. He believes the devil is interfering with his son. If the devil exist maybe he is interfering. Possibly not for the reason he believes but I dont think the idea should be dismissed.

MountainMomParticipantUnfortunately, just telling the facts concerning what a member of the wmscog actually says makes them sound insane. It isn't the intention of their concerned relative, it just sounds insane to the average person. It's just a fact that many of their beliefs really lend themselves to sounding crazy.
I'm really glad that Julie's ex talked of the 2012 date for the end of the world, and it is even more encouraging that he said he'd quit if it didn't happen. However, my experience is that often a person's formerly reliable words and promises are no longer valid once they are a member of the wmscog. He may just accept their lame excuse for their failed prediction, and say "people misunderstood" or something similar. He will probably deny he said he'd quit if it didn't come about as the church said, etc. That's par for the course for this type of thing with this group.
Religion is supposed to make a person better, and usually does, except for this one. They take a person who used to pride themselves on truthfullness, loyalty, and responsibility, and make them something else. Not just my experience, but the experiences of pretty much every person who has a relative in this farce. Fortunately, that good person still exists somewhere inside, they are just covered up. There is still hope for them.

Love'n HoneyParticipantIts one to point out a specific belief that makes the members sound crazy. But when you point out a general belief, it makes all christians at a minimum sound crazy.
I am very anxious for the new year to come to see how many people remain faithful to f&m. I’m even more anxious for the po to come because that should definitely be the end and I was taught.
December 14, 2012 at 7:01 PM #43654
MountainMomParticipantI'm interested to see that too, Renita. I do disagree a little with all Christian religions sounding crazy, at least to the degree that this mind control group does. I haven't heard of any Lutherans, Presbyterians, Methodists, etc., saying Jesus has comd for the 2nd time already or that God is a person in the flesh and they go visit her or get phone calls directly from God. Now that's crazy!
Anyway, I have heard of people saying what you have stated before, and I understand where they are coming from. It's just that they just don't employ the destruction of family relationships, fiinances, etc.
December 14, 2012 at 7:08 PM #43655
Love'n HoneyParticipantI was targeting the specific comment of believing the devil is scheming against the boy. No, not every other religion is preaching of the outrageous things the wmscog is saying. But they do collectively believe the devil is against them.
I told my grandma I had a head ache and she immediately said the devil is a liar. Lol.. ok…… seems to be when bad things happen its the devils fault when in actuality it isn’t but who cares. These people are psycho anyway.

MountainMomParticipantOne concern about people going to Korea, they come back with ludicrous objectives given directly to them by "The Mother" albeit through an interpreter. When my relative went in 2010, she had their whole delegation from Chicago come in to a room, and she told them their mission was to "save Chicago" when they went back. They were to build 20 new churches there. Now, why all this construction before the end of the world, I don't know.
Physical concerns really aren't there, I don't worry about the people who go except that they most likely get subjected to sleep deprivation, which makes them more vulnerable to the "teachings". Also, I have a feeling they are making lots of money off these people. Again, my opinion. Well, not in the case of my relative. They are absolutely gutting him financially.
January 23, 2013 at 3:13 PM #43665
SimonParticipantI almost wish I had gone so I could have answers.
not sure what you mean by ludicrous objects though?
January 23, 2013 at 3:46 PM #43666
MountainMomParticipantLudicrous objectives was the actual wording. And, you wouldn't get answers from going there, none that make sense anyway. The "Mother" told my relative something so ridiculous I don't know how he could have fallen for it. But then again, I do understand mind control, so I guess it is why. Anyway, what she told him goes against everything they preach, and it is so obvious.
January 23, 2013 at 5:07 PM #43667
SimonParticipantOh makes more sense now lol
as far as answers I meant like what it is like for them is there sleep deprevation how is the eating how much of what kinda stuff happens.
