Two Members Just Knocked on My Door

We had a ten minute discussion. The problem is I am an ex-Jehovah's Witness so I can smell a cult from a mile away. These two poor souls didn't have a chance.

As soon as they told me not to do research on them on the internet I knew what was up. And even though the fine members of this site and I aren't Survivors of the same cult I still consider you brothers and sisters!

So, with that all said, these two people are coming back. I invited them because as an ex-JW I want to help others who are ensnared by a cult, no matter what cult that is. Can anyone give me any information on how to proceed? What should I avoid saying so as not to scare them off? I told them that I am open minded (that was to get them to come back) but not to give up on me if I show resistance and fight too much (that was to get them to keep coming back) but that can only work for two or three visits tops. I need more information on what to say and what not to say.

Hopefully, with your help, I can reach these people and help them to escape the grasp of this cult.

First read everything you can on this site.  You don't really have to worry about scaring them off.  They won't give up as long as you listen and are polite.  Most are really nice people, just duped into this and don't realize what it is.

If I were you I would contact the person named Genny on this site.  She would have some great advice for you.  She is kind of a biblical scholar and has dissected and disproved much of what they have to say.  Private message her if you get a chance.

    Hi Cloud, I was a member for a little over 4 years. I would possibly focus on the scriptures that foretell the difference between God vs False God, Prophet vs False-Propeht…and then show then how Ahn and Zahng can’t be God. Please note…this is going to be a difficult task. WMS members are experts at 2 things;

    1. Scripture twisting (They can make anything fit, even blatant scriptures)

    2. Scripture manipulation (WMS will cherry pick scriptures. Not reading the entire chapter or some verses above or below the key verse.)

Oh yes, I’m very knowledgeable about the Bible as well and I think we all surprised each other about our grasp of the Scriptures. It was obvious in just a few minutes that they employ the same tactics as the JW’s. Flipping from Scripture to Scripture without considering the context is a classic move. I was just hoping for some specific verses for next time. I can argue with JW’s all night because I have an intimate knowledge of their beliefs and errors but I had never heard of this church until today.

Did you read about it in the Jersey Record?  Just wondering.

…..I'll bet you $10, they don't come back!

HQ, has probably already read this and sent an email blast to all pasters, to inform, all deacons and missionaries, to inform, all group leaders/overseers, to inform all recruiters, to stay away from anybody who fits the description that you just gave of yourself.

Sorry to burst your bubble, I know you wanted to help but they are on high alert right now.

If they do come back, it will be with an overseer who will (pardon the pun) "see right through you"

I am sorry to break the news to you.

Wow, I can’t imagine that in the JW’s but I get the impression that the WMSCOG is a much smaller outfit.

On the other hand, I am certain that the same thing would happen, just on a more local scale. If the local elders heard of someone in the area actively trying to save JW’s they’d just tell us not to go there again.

    that.

but if they do I wouldnt bother with scriptures.  rather, what is in common with your JW experience – the shunning of those that leave Jehovah.

and I've been told by both this group and JWs that they don't shun ex-members.  but the truth is another matter:  they shun.

If they did come back and they won't, I would do exactly as JW03550 suggests. Just tell them about the JW's, maybe they will see for themselves. The similarities are obvious

IMO, the JW's are not as hightect as these guys but I don't think wms is as hightect as they once were but who knows.

JW's are way bigger! That's actually a guess but I'm pretty sure it's got to be true.

The comparison between known cult groups and what they are involved in opens a lot of eyes. My loved one was shocked by how the Moonies worked and how similar she knew the WMSCOG to be. High pressure to learn the teachings, Saturday as the Sabbath and keeping it holy, Tithe expectations, extra offerings, recruitment ie preaching, separation from family and friends (support systems), ect…

If you choose to enlighten them with this kind of information don't attack their group directly. Share how you realized that your group had many of these similarities. Draw coorilations between JW and whatever group you choose to highlight. Hopefully they will draw their own conclusions about their group and its similarities to a cult. I wish you lots of luck and prayers.
