Sarah2013ParticipantI'm sorry, but what's the hype about the NIV in use or not? Is it a distorted bible? I mean, the only Bible translation I don't get is The Message Bible. The rest appear understandable. I personally use NASB, Old and New King James, and from time to time I delve into my old Catholic Bible. God already made it clear what await those who distort His Word, that is, add or take away from it. I actually prefer old English versions of most things. 🙂 I watch a bit of the video on Reveleation. Are you saying those who only study or read NIV are wasting their time? When someone says "How are you" in English, when translated into another language the "you" sometimes comes before the "how are." Do you not think this might be the case with some of these transcripts? Just asking. No agenda.

reydelavozParticipantYES they did distort the NIV bible when it was translated in 1965. they replaced some of the verses with different translations. Sarah did you see those videos of pastor Anderson you can see some of the distortions. I personally like the KJV it is older but it is the closest out of all the translations that one was translated in 1605.

Sarah2013Participant1605? Hmmm… I need to learn more about that translation issue then. I didn't think it made so much of a difference though. However, I'll look at Pastor Anderson's videos.

SimonParticipantNIV being distorted is at best confusion and worst a lie by KJV onlyists

gennyParticipantYes, Simon, I would agree with you.
If you use the parallel feature at biblegateway.com, and bring up the chapters in question, and then read the footnotes (available in NIV and New King James–I think KJV is too old for these footnotes), many if not all of those discrepancies are cleared up.
There are many more old Bible texts available to scholars now than there were 400+ years ago when the KJV was written.

QFT. Though I've seen the same kind of slander from the NIV crowd. It all seems kind of silly to me. If "god's word" really mattered, wouldn't we all take the time to learn to read it in the original language? Then there could be no doubt in your own mind as to who was distorting things.

SimonParticipantseeing as the Bible was written in three dead languages it would take decades..
and with the New Testament it gets very complex there is not only debate on which codex is truer to the original there is debate as to if some of the books started in Greek or Aramaic or Hebrew. And a lot of the arguments against one codex can easily be met with an equal argument against the other but ultimately using the same methodology you will generally acheive essentially the same doctrine from any translation (At least the majority accepted ones NIV KJV NKJV ESV NJB DR Geneva etc as opposed to NWT Joseph Smith's etc)
