The Monkey Experiment. ie Group Mentality.

This was posted up at my work. It’s relevant so I am sharing it with all of you. Start with a cage containing five monkeys. Inside the cage, hang a banana on a string and place a set of stairs under it. Before long, a monkey will go to the stairs and start to climb towards the banana. As soon as he touches the stairs, all of the other monkeys are sprayed with cold water. After a while, another monkey makes an attempt with the same result, and all the other monkeys are sprayed with cold water. Pretty soon the monkeys will try to prevent it.

Now, put away the cold water. Remove one monkey from the cage and replace it with a new one. The new monkey sees the banana and wants to climb the stairs. To his surprise and horror, all the other monkeys attack him. After another attempt and attack, he knows that if he tries to climb the stairs he will be attacked.

Next, remove another of the original five monkeys and replace it with a new one. The newcomer goes to the stairs and is attacked. The previous newcomer takes part in the punishment with enthusiasm! Likewise, replace a third original monkey with a new one, then a fourth, then the fifth.

Every time the newest monkey takes to the stairs, he’s attacked. Most of the monkeys that are beating him have no idea why they were not permitted to climb the stairs or why they are participating in the beating of the newest monkey. After replacing all of the original monkeys, none of the remaining monkeys have ever been sprayed with cold water. Nevertheless, no monkey ever again approaches the stairs to try for the banana.

Why do members of the WMSCOG continue to do things the way they do even after learning of some of the major problems with their doctrine? Because that’s just the way it’s done and to raise too many questions is to bring judgment down. The truth is available to them but when they reach for it they are beaten down by the group.

I see that in so many areas of life, not just in the COG. Where I grew up, at work, at school.. We're all a bunch of intelligently stupid monkeys.

You know the more I speak to members and ex-members the less I believe that any of you are stupid. In fact it seems that the prefered future member is a person of above average intelligence. What happens is cognative dissonance. I hope I spelled that right. Everyone has a logical, emotional, and physical side to them. If you can affect one of those areas then the other two over compensate until a new equilibrium is established. This is what this group and other ones like it does and why it is actually a very destructive thing. Nobody stays in these kinds of groups forever. God created us to have free will which includes freedom of choice. When a group claims to have the absolute truth it makes a situation of it's our way or it's wrong. Another way to put it is the US vs. THEM mentality. If you don't do everything the way they have instructed then you are in risk of losing the truth and in this case your salvation. Our minds and spirits are not created to be put into this kind of bondage and we constantly fight within ourselves for the freedom that God desires for us. I watched my loved on go through all of this and suffered at times from the bondage that my loved one was in. The person I speak of is and intelligent wonderful person and never believed that they could get caught up in a cult. Now that they are through this part they realize a major part of the control and undue influence that this group had. It's one of the main reasons why people who leave these types of groups don't feel like they can trust anyone and unfortunatley many people turn agnostic. They don't want to be fooled and/or imprisioned ever again.

The Navy absolutley does. All of the armed services do. The first thing that happens is that they break you down so they can build you up to be more like the solder they want you to be. Here's a big difference: You can choose to leave and you wont lose you soul for doing it. The choice is up to you.

You can be forced to stay for physical reasons so I think they have you as bad as any religious Cult. Except in a cult if you leave you don't go to hell in Armed Forces if you leave, or refuse a recall, you DO get concequences.

You sign an agreement with the Armed Forces when you join.  You are expected to live up to that agreement in terms of your length of stay.  I am not aware of WMSCOG asking members to sign anything like this.  Neither does Moon's cult, or other similar "religious" cults.  The cult dependency is developed with tactics noted in above posts and reinforced through constant "study" and lots and lots of peer pressure from longer serving cult members.  I saw WMSCOG cult immersion tactics first hand …. and I have seen their effect on 5 young people's lives, the damage it is causing, and the pain to the families involved.  I have also witnessed the successfull outcome of a very good exit counseling session that brought 1 young member out, for good.

My advice to WMSCOG members, if you want to know the true nature of your group, follow the money.  And learn more about Big Shine Worldwide, Inc.

As noted above, most WMSCOG members will find their way out.  But for some the pain will last for a long long time.  I am hoping that legal strategies can be developed to recover damages once the member finds their way out ….

There is no bigshine in colorado so clearly not every pastor has one… and again you cannot prove anything about Big shine's finances and what happens with the money

I wish I could sue past churches over their BS too.
