I have been thinking about doing a survey and sharing the results here.
First, could we get 25 ex members at a minimum to complete one?
Second, what we would do is measure different variables. Ideas would be how much emphasis (for the person completing the survey) was placed on first commandment, second commandment, fragrance, talents, whatever. what can be done with a study like this is determine what is significantly related to what. meaning, if you have a buddy still in then even though your experiences are likely the same you may be wasting your time talking about one experience when you should be focusing on a different experience to help them see the light, so to speak. a survey can also bring to light differences for male/female.
opinions and ideas on 1 and 2 if youre' interested. please

jw03550ParticipantI do market research so its essentially the same thing
but it doesnt seem like there is any interest so probably a no go

gennyParticipantIf you got a survey together, I'm sure people would respond, especially if they can do it anonymously. But you'd have to give them a little time. Some people don't check the forum daily.
November 25, 2015 at 1:32 AM #68854
setufreeParticipantIf it remained anonymous, where we didn’t divulge too much information that could lead to us being identified.
November 25, 2015 at 6:17 AM #68855
Kai TIngParticipantI'm quite willing to contribute, but since those who are here are mainly ex-members, and current members do not trust anything from the internet, who can actually benefit from this?
November 25, 2015 at 5:51 PM #68856
jw03550Participantok, I will work on something.
KT, it will depend upon the findings. one idea that is possible is that if we see certain trends in the data for people that were members for x months then it could point out areas that may be effective for critical thinking – that is, if we see behaviors in common then the person may be open for exit at x months. if certain indicators are not present then we go on with the relationship we have with our friends and dont waste time with exit / critical thinking attempts.
in general, thats the idea.
the survey participants will only be ex-members. this is something to be noted when I compile the data and write up the research because we would be generalizing to a greater population – ie, people still in the group.
November 28, 2015 at 1:49 AM #68857
jw03550ParticipantOk, I have a very good start to this.
would like to have some inputs.
First, commentators on this forum if you could post that you are an ex-member.
then I can PM you with the survey monkey link when the survey is complete.
this will help to control the survey to prevent a well-meaning current member from throwing off the results of the data. (because if someone is unknown then they'd be called out or questioned).
Secondly, if you think there was an activity that contributed to the blinding effects of groups like this then please post an idea for a question within the survey. likewise on behavior that let to questioning.

Ok, i'm an ex member and i will take the surevey but I have to think about the second part of your question to give a meaningful response that hasn't already been posted a dozen times

AzulaParticipantI'd also like to participate, please me the link when it's up and running.

Ex member here, interested in the survey.

Kai TIngParticipantYa I'd help
November 30, 2015 at 10:07 PM #68862
jw03550ParticipantSo that's 4 so far
any suggestions on how to distribute to more ex-members?
also, verification of this site's ex-members, how? Ideas?
its looking like it may be a 40-45 minute time-to-complete survey, fyi

setufreeParticipantJust curious as to why you need verification?
Most ex members here are not ready to be fully outed or publicly identified due to the church’s legal history.
I feel that if you want us to be “verified”, you should be as well. if you can “verify” yourself as a real ex member , than more people would be willing to contribute to your survey.

Jw may really be an ex member, but he hasn't ever given us his story or any reason to believe he is empathetic to those suffering or struggling because of the church. To tell you the truth, he has seemed rather callous, and actually "needles" those whom he knows are already in pain due to a loved one's involvement. He calls it playing "devil's advocate" but he really seems to enjoy needling. Approach with caution. I am not saying that I am sure he is a member posing as an ex-member. I'm just saying several of his posts do nothing at all to garner trust. Tell us why you are here, JW. Tell us your story.
Also, come clean if you have posted here under another handle. I think you have because I recognize your style of writing. That may not be important, but maybe it is, too. You can PM me if you don't want to say it on the forum. I am not in the habit of revealing what is PM'd to me. You know my story. It's been consistent for years. What's yours? How do we know you have empathy? I don't play games like "devil's advocate," I speak from the heart always and I am talking to you that way now. I'm kind of protective toward friends on this forum. I don't want anyone taken advantage of.
If you are who I think you are, I will be able to tell by your very disrespectful reply and actions (pouting and running away) directly following this post. If you have a level of maturity I don't know about, you may actually give us what we need to trust you.

Kai TIngParticipanttbh I still don't know what is the survey for and why is there a need for verification.
I believe that you are doing this out of goodwill and I am willing to help, but I just want to bring up the fact that there are numerous video testimonials, bible evidences, internal evidences, historical evidences etc and they are all disregarded by the members as "lies of satan" so honestly just this one survey wouldn't make a difference.
On the other hand, I have indeed seen people who are genuinly happy in this organisation. It is just a belief system (even though kinda extremist) and the current way that they are now I don't think it will be serious enough to bring secular security problems to the world. They are not really a threat in the secular sense.
People join this organisation and people also leave this organisation, it is their choice. As for "informed decision", there are already enough information out there.

Ugh.
ffs I get it
no one is talking about outing anyone here as to their identity.
this project will easily be 80-120 hours of my time and if it gets ****ed up because the link to the survey gets to the counter-intelligence people within the group then I would have been better off donating my time to pediatric aids patients downtown.

thought i explained prev to MM that this would shed some light on connections between activities and actions that may be beating a dead horse in helping our friends/fam from others that would be more efficacious in gently guiding towards info that is effective

with due respect, you simply are off track. this survey isn't the magic bullet for any member to look at and see the light.
it is for us to discover what is significant and separating that from what is not. from there we can look to settle in with F&F in the group and not attack the group. sometimes work in something in conversation that we find is statistically relevant toward movement toward the exit process.
Unless no one likes science and scientific results, that is.

I did, under another thread.
no one is asking you to change your style but I find this business that I need to get on board with the attitudes and opinions of everyone else to be similar in social control to the way these groups operate.
if people don't like what I have to say then I could care less. I care about my friend in the group. this survey will shed light on significant relationships among variables for membership. with good fortune we can also discover what is significant in getting someone from the general membership stage to move towards the exiting stage.
anyone that thinks Im some member sabatogeur can climb in the boat with heinrich what-s-his-name.

No, you didn't explain anything to me. You explained to Kai Ting. But I fully understood what you told him. I just think you are wasting time reinventing the wheel. The approach you talk about is just like what Steve Hassan suggests already (don't attack the group, keep relationships going, and work in conversations that make them think.) Other specialists have also suggested these things.
I hope you really do volunteer at the pediatric clinic. That would be awesome. Good luck.
December 1, 2015 at 6:13 PM #68870
jw03550Participantquite different from anything hassan suggests. he talks in generalities. I've read his stuff and listened to his videos. he has no scientific research backing his opinions what-so-ever.
this is quantitative research which I do all the time in market research projects.
each group is different. what hassan or any specialist talks about is in general and covers the vanilla approach. this would have been a great study, specific to this group, but WMSCOG wins. congrats, MM for becoming – unknownsts to you – a saboteur for something that could be very helpful to all of us looking to help our F&F.
imho, you sabotage this because I don't agree w/ you 100%, and I offer devil's advocate. question: who the fuck are you to use social pressure on me to conform?
