Hello, This link may be of interest to members of the forum. It describes Christian churches in Korea and may add to our understanding of WMSCOG.

Mayor and MikeParticipantI know you didn’t give your opinion about your son losing his job. But what happens in his zion also happens in my zion. I didn’t know he was a deacon. The younger deacons lost their jobs and married WMS SK. Its more than just coincidence. My overseer tried to get members to skip work.
The church is very group minded.
The circumstances your son is in is not good as we know. Unless you can get a wedge in between the church and him/his wife, he’s seems to be stuck in there. Unless he gets drastic and leaves his wife and kid and position in the church behind. Its no good.
There is a WMS reason why he’s not telling you about his job. But I’m not sure of the reason.

MountainMomParticipant@Mayor: Yes, I'm sure there is a Wms reason because so many members are paranoid about giving that information to family. They must be being told not to. But, like you, I don't know why. It is just a wierd thing.
I am not trying to get my son out of the Wms, Mayor. I know he would be better off out of there, but I think he has to figure it out on his own now. If he wanted help, I would be there, but he just hasn't figured it out yet, and no one has that magic answer to dislodging them from that bunch.

I remember my wife asking a Deacon about the sin of Gluttony. He told her it meant, "When a person doesnt eat all the food presented to him, but wastes it". Now, the overseer at that time was always harping about members wasting food etc. I started to see then, that answers are ;
1. Convienent
2. Must point toward WMS doctrine/thinking
3. Change often
4. Are often hypocritical(but they won't admit that)
That got me laughing, Untouchable. Not because it's funny but because it's ridiculous, changing the definition of something like that. (For anyone reading who might not be familiar with the word, "gluttony" means "excessive eating and drinking" NOT "wasting food by not eating it".)

UntouchableJParticipant@Genny, Yeah, amongst other things. I also remember an Overseer saying that Adultery was not having a heart toward God, in the current age. Now, he didnt mean that Christians had a greenlight to sleep around, but, why water down Gods words? It means not to be unfaithful, period. It blew my mind. I could do another forum discussion on the minced words they use to sound elite and knowledgable.

Mayor and MikeParticipantTmary said that “many, although not all, characteristics we find unusual in WMS are not unique to that particular group.” yes that’s right. From my experience, the WMS made an effort to keep me sheltered inside the church, inside the group. While being a WMS member, I wasn’t given the opportunity to study, explore outside the group. Even visiting Korea I was escorted around the country and kept within the group. I was given and restricted to only the WMS brand.
This website, (and for head office I say this truth website) really helps me.
