Fear. Guilt. Loneliness. Anger … are all emotions that play out as a cult member emerges. And, as Abhigail points out on another thread, a desire for retribution. For several of the ex-members we have talked with the desire for retribution emerges early on. We need to organize somehow to tap this energy in constructive ways to help keep young lives from being shattered and other families from being hurt by the Cult of WMSCOG. This site serves us all very well in many many ways, but I think there may be more we can do. Let's share some ideas on that. If you have ideas you want to share post them here or PM me. Thanks.

Brian TaylorParticipantI've actually been thinking about this post for a long time and wanted to give it some serious thought before I spoke on it. I would encourage other people on this site to speak on it as well. It's known that the cult breaks up families and ruins people's lives but there is another danger they present that I feel is worthy to be addressed. That danger is the desire and ambition for despotic tyranny.
Maybe I'm reaching, maybe I have a very active imagination, maybe I'm just flat out eccentric. But when I take a step back and consider what life would be like if the WMSCOG had their way in the grandiose scheme of things this is what I see; the complete absence of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.
To exaplain further, some time ago when I met in person with a few members of this forum, we discussed the simularities between the WMSCOG and the unification church ( the moonies). It was pointed our that Rev. sun myung moon was one of the absolute richest men on the planet and that he had deep rooted political connections in both Korea and the rest of the world. At this point we all agreed that this is the influence that the WMSCOG desires but does not yet have.
When I think about a scenario where the WMSCOG does gain their desired influence, or let us just say for the sake of my point, the control of a small country, only one word comes to mind. That word is tyranny. We can think of "zion culture" ( that is, the accepted behaviours and customs which are permitted when one is a member of the church) as a microcosm of what society would be like while under the control of the WMS. The former members here could imagine more vividly, but I still must ask: what kind of life would that be?
Life would be dreary, and such a system would be horribly oppressive. Here are some specific examples to illustrate my point: Everyone loves music in some form or another ( beethoven is my personal favorite, symphony no.7) however, in WMS life, there would be no beethoven symphony no.7, the only music that would be allowed would be "new songs". I can make this conclusion because when I was a member ( in the microcosm) "worldly music" was considered an evil influence. Many of us love reading, but in WMS life the only books allowed would be those written by ASH for the same reason. Again, I can say this with certainty because of the modus operandi when I was a member. Obviously there would be no television, entertainment or recreation of any kind and the only movies allowed would be those produced by the church for the purpose of indoctrination. There would not even be freedom of expression. Once again, anyone who was once a member knowns that in the WMS you are literally not allowed to disagree with superiors or to have your own opinion. so to sum it all up, there would be no liberty!
To conclude with regard to the original post: my retribution or "payback" we can say is to oppose, expose and publicy disparage this cult ( who , if given the oppurtunity, would deprive us of our basic rights and liberties) in any way possible. It makes me happy to think that we will be on the right side of history in opposing tyranny. It may seem like I am exaggerating or being overly imaginitive, but wasnt it once said that " all it takes for evil to prevail is for good men ( and women) to do nothing" so, its not about religion, or churches or whether or not god exists, but its about freedom.

MountainMomParticipantYou are absolutely right, Brian, in every single observation you have made in your post. I also see that the WMS seems to have modeled itself after the Moonies. It's a wierd combination of Moonies and Seventh Day Adventists just with a kind of different Korean spin to it. And I believe that while money is the main goal of this group, a lot of the leaders and higher up members also get off on the control part. It's often been said tyranny is the most efficient form of leadership. I believe tyranny is efficient, but the people being led in this way have no chance of long term happiness. The WMS is a complete tyranny, by design.
I know that people naturally want to be free, so I am counting on that as one of the factors that will eventually help some to see the light. Meanwhile, I work on other ways to help expose them.
