Leah Remini asked the church questions they didn't like.

After 30 years as a member of the Church of Scientology, actress Leah Remini has left the building.

The  "Old School" and "King of Queens" star finally called it quits after years of questioning the religion's  treatment of followers and  the leadership of David Miscavige .

Sounds like she has something in common with us. It shouldnt be upsetting to any church when a member asks an uncomfortable question. If it makes the church or you uncomfortable to ask a question, then something isnt right…and maybe you should re-evaluate your membership.

I remember saying I thought Zhang was the high priest (City of Refuge) and we were waiting on her to die so we could go to heaven. Man did I get reamed for saying mama was going to die. It didnt make sense to me that if Ash was already dead then Zhang had to be the one who needed to die so we can escape from the city of refuge. That incident was one of many that had me reevaluating my staying in the church.

Well consider me an idiot. I didn't know about Scientology until I transferred to WA on orders. I saw a building there and asked my group leader about. After I learned about, I never did any kind of research on it. Excuse me for not knowing the obvious..

I didn't say you were an idiot, i just said it was surprising that you didn't know scientology was a cult

    I hate the 4 letter "C" word 🙂

It is very imprecise and hence lends itself to individual interpretation. With such interpretation, it is possible to show virtually any group of people is a cult.

A current quote from Leah Remini reminds me of something that can be said to current members:

"I believe that people should be able to question things," the former "King of Queens" star told People magazine at Saturday's 15th Annual DesignCare benefit in Malibu, though without uttering the word "Scientology" a single time. "I believe that people should value family, and value friendships, and hold those things sacrosanct. That for me, that's what I'm about. It wouldn't matter what it was, simply because no one is going to tell me how I need to think, no one is going to tell me who I can, and cannot, talk to."

The church tries really hard to express to members that they should not speak to members who have "fallen away". They equate this to eating from the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil. Why should we stop speaking to those who we love as brothers & sisters? Shouldnt we love even those who have fallen away? Seems to me that those have fallen away would need more love. But of course the church views the "fallen" as the threat they are. Us fallen will continue to expose the "church" with all of the lies and false doctrine.

This whole thing about not talking to someone who has "fallen away" seems fundamentally flawed. What is the story of the prodicle son was written from this perspective? I guess the older brother who was so self righteous would be justly so. Once again it's a big steaming pile of bad teachings that the members have been taught to view as right.

Yeah we all know the real reason why they do not want members to talk to the "fallen away"

I saw Leah on TV again, and she was speaking about how she would like to help people.  She was speaking about how families and relationships were adversely affected and how that isn't right.  Sound familiar?  I know Scientology and Wms have some big differences, but their methods of operation are the same when you come right down to it.    I know people don't like the word "cult" but it serves a useful purpose.  We can all look up what a "cult" is because we have a word for it, and we can access all kinds of information because of this word.  I can tell the difference between what is harmful and what isn't due to this word.  Had I not printed in "Church of God Cult"  on my computer, I doubt I would have ever known what my son was involved in because I couldn't find ANYTHING on them till I did that.  That said, I don't use the word cult to my son because it just causes arguments.  But I definitely know it falls under the category of cult.

…when I was a member, we all laughed about the fact that people said "we" were in a cult. It was definitely a running joke. That's why the church tries to come up with all the comparisons about how Jesus was persecuted 2,000 years ago and was the leader of the Nazarene sect (forget the bible verse that says this, I think maybe in Acts). It was always Us vs. Them mentality and how we were better because we had god the mother. It's always best to leave "cult" out of the conversation with a current member. They will get defensive and feel you are "attacking" their church/beliefs.

All too many similarities between WMSCOG, Scientology and the Church of Mormon AKA Church of Latter Day Saints. There was a documentary on recently about a person who left the Mormon church who had the same experiences as I. She discussed the sleep deprivation of 5 am worship service, being afraid to leave because of the possibility of going to hell, being told to not think for themselves, the list goes on.
