While my loved one was trapped in the WMSCOG I was repeatedly challened with the idea that they were the only ones with the truth and that there is only one truth. Everything else is just acting like the truth but is really just a lie.
It's a powerful delusion! If you can make something seem like a lie then what you are saying must be the truth. What do you think the whole "Saturday is the Sabbath" thing is designed for? The Seventh Day Adventist are really the ones who perfected this study. The WMSCOG just stole it from them for their own purposes. It's an absolute manipulation but if you can make someone believe this lie then what you are saying at least seems like it could be true. I've brought this up many times over the years.
Today I was talking to a fellow member of my home church. (I am non-denominational by choice. Too many fights have been started and too much division has happened over the whole "what I believe is the truth and what you believe is wrong". I don't believe God came to Earth in the flesh in order to create denominations.) The lady I was talking to was basically pushing Rick Warren teachings. For those of you who don't know what these are He's mostly known for his series on "The Purpose Driven Life" and "The Purpose Driven Church". A lot of the stuff Rick brings up in his teachings I agree with but every so often I hear what I call, "Claim it and it's yours" kind of teaching. In my mind God is NOT some kind of spiritual ATM. I feel that it is a bad doctrine and a bad teaching. If you are not well off then it is because you are not faithful enough or spiritually in tune enough to be blessed with wealth. Like I said, bad teaching bad doctrine. The WMS is just like this with their members only that their members have no hope in ever being in tune and blessed by their gods. You can become rich in the WMSCOG but only if you are in the management side of this group. Will the average member ever be given the opportunity to do this? So far the answer is no leaving the members feeling like they can never truly measure up. They will pay and pray and perform but they will never be able to be really blessed for their service, sacrifice, or commitment.
How many versions of the truth are there? I believe that there is only one. When a group tells you that they have the truth and then down the road the truth changes then you should instantly know that they do NOT have the truth. It doesn't matter if they've proven that some other group doesn't have the truth! What matters is the fact that they don't have it! Don't stay in a group like this! If they claim to be the ONLY ones with the truth and then prove that their truth changes over time then they are obviously liars! At least the church I attend is very up front about being falable. We are saved by GRACE through FAITH in our Lord Jesus the Christ. Is there truth in this? YES!
