With all of the holidays coming up, how do you handle it? For example…..my loved ones celebrate Christmas by celebrating with "New Years Gifts". Thanksgiving…..instead of having a Thanksgiving meal on Thursdays, it's on Friday. To me, this is having your cake and eat it too. Personally……I'm thinking of not participating in either. I would appreciate your thoughts.

Mayor and MikeParticipantAre your loved ones current members upset mom? Are you saying they don't celebrate the day of, but then they give gifts a week later. Sounds to me they are trying to get around the day. But then the cog doesn't even celebrate the passover on the correct day either. I still trying to figure out this korean culture way of doing things myself. Hmmmm… maybe this group is just about doing everything on the wrong days. They celebrate Christmas on the wrong day, then they celebrate the passover on the wrong day too.

AzulaParticipant@MM try to ask him this.
Why do the Koreans celebrate Chusoek but all other traditions outside of the Korean festival are evil? mama z and Korean members even celebrate the lunar new year (Soellal) by Korean traditions. So why then is it that all other festivals that originate outside Korea are bad?
Thanksgiving is considered evil, but the lunar new year and Chuseok aren't? But I thought that this was supposeldy the god of the bible? Why does the god of the bible keep man-made traditions? Isn't this the god who restored the perfect truth? Where is Chusoek in the bible?

AnonymousInactiveMayor and Mike….My loved ones are current members. Yes, they say they don't celebrate Christmas; however, they will have a "gift exchange" another time…..say New Years Day and call it "New Years Gifts". IMO…….They are trying to following WMSCOG by not celebrating Christmas; however, they don't want to stop gift exchange. To me….it's their way of having their cake and eating it too. In the case of Thanksgiving, they will not sit down to a large meal on Thanksgiving day, but they will do it on Friday as long as it isn't prayed over or praying is done at the table. I was wondering if there are any other families that have encountered this.

Mayor and MikeParticipantI see… U M. Yes, I was told the same about thanksgiving when I was a member. Cake and eat it too? Exactly.
I will try and ask these questions, is Chusoek in the bible? First I will check the encyclopedia of Google. But my guess is he-ll no. It's not in there. This is supposed to be God the bible? All she is, is god of this world, (lower case g)

MountainMomParticipant@Upset Mom: If they aren't celebrating the holidays with you because they are "man made" then why should you give any gifts for their "man made" holiday (New Years gifts)? I quit giving Christmas gifts years ago because my son didn't celebrate Christmas. I also didn't know if I should give a birthday gift so I didn't. He, of course, was very upset about that. Why? Are birthday celebrations in the Bible? Never saw it there.

AbbaFather07ParticipantI recently heard of members getting ready for Fathers bday which is around Christmas time. They apparently don’t have his exact bday date. I find this ridiculous bc they are doing the same thing as Christmas. Its like they pick and choose what is convenient for them. Anything that has to do w ur earthly family do away with. They basically dont want u to spend time w any non members or have any fun. I used to like Christmas. Not bc I was worshipping a Savior ( i knew his bday was not in that date) but bc it was time w family and its an American tradition!!! But its ok to practice Korean traditions….duh! Makes sense!

MountainMomParticipantExactly Abba, they want to take away any time that is family time. No holidays with them, no vacations with them, no visiting unless they go through a big "preparation" thing by their church leaders. I know many who were set up to fight with their families when they finally got permission to go see them.
The Wms makes a mountain out of a mole hill about everything. So unnecessary, and I think it will be their downfall eventually.
