While doing research to determine what bible verses to utilize to begin planting seeds of doubt, I have deteremined there are many versions. I believe the WMSCOG utizes the New World Version. I am having trouble with the way this version is written. What is a good version to utilize?
Nevermind, I think I found it. Was it Jeremiah 10:5?

Some Bible versions focus more on readability and others focus more on word for word translation. That's why it's good to use a variety (including an interlinear) for serious study.

Isaiah 14:12 doesn't translate lucifer (from the latin manuscripts) to day star like it does in 2 Peter 1:19
every translation including the Jewish one says scare crow in a cucumber field.

Got that part as per the NIV. But still trying to see the errors you say KJV has. Please post a couple of scriptures you believe are incorrectly written in KJV. Then post the version where you believe it was translated inproperly.

With KJV you have to understand that they were using English words with their 16th century meanings. The same words have different meanings now, like the King James using charity instead of love. And more ancient manuscripts have been found, and more scholarship in the original language, so the translation has been more fine-tuned, so to speak. But the overall message is still the same.

Charity is an act of kindness – Love. I don't get confused when I cross referene (by cross reference I mean to read it a different way, yet getting the same understanding) with NASB. It's crystal clear to me, the KJV, that it. So I don't get why Simon condemns it.

You are giving me NIV translations. I need to see the errors you claim. I have read all that you posted in KJV and find no inaccuracies or incorrect interpretation. What version are you matching against. NIV????
I think the message is what matters anyway. It's not the words that matter. When someone pointed out that the camel and the needle was wrong. When he gave me the "proper" translation it was still a really big object trying to fit through a tiny hole which is impossible. Jesus said even though that's impossible it's easier to do that than it is for a rich man trying to get into heaven [paraphrased].

I don't like any of the versions to be honest. I've always hated reading the Bible. I don't like the language. I don't like the characters. I don't like the chapters. I don't like anything about it.
That was the main thing that attracted me to the wmscog. They broke down the bible and actually made bible studies fun. I never in my life thought I could spend hours in bible study, learning verses and preaching back what I learned. And it made me feel that for once in my life. I could actually be a great vessel for God.
In the past, I've thrown my bibles on the floor in disgust before. Ripped out the pages, colored in them, stepped on them, whatever. I'm serious- I hated the Bible. It was because I wanted a connection with God so badly, and people just kept telling me, "Oh spend time with God and read the bible." I tried that countless times and felt nothing. So frustrating. Yet somehow, I still have 8 bibles at home. Strange. I feel like I should donate them to someone who truly wants/needs them.
I shouldn't have to know Greek or Hebrew or whatever. I shouldn't have to know certain vocabulary. I shouldn't have to know metaphors, parables, paralaxes, figurative speaking. I shouldn't have to hear, "oh this is different in this translation and so forth." And I shouldn't be sucuumbed to hundreds of different interpretations.
The fact that there is this very thread exists,nd people are speaking about which version about poetic imagery/language in Greek?Hebrew/Latin/Aramaic or whatever just bothers me. As far as I'm concerned, these variables shouldn't even exists if the Bible is truly the book that we need to live by.
I've always felt that if God really wanted to reach me through the Bible, it would have been written differently. But it isn't, so I know that isn't my connection path. My dislike for the Bible however, doesn't stop me from trying to seek a genuine connection with him.
How do you feel about the Bible in other languages aside from English. Bibles that have been translated from English to say Spanish, French, Italian or say in various African languages and now dialects? Sometimes in translations, words change but I agree it shouldn't be too far fetched.
I sincerely don't have any issues with the translations of the Bible. The only one I find a bit uniquely different is the Message version, and that doesn't bother me a bit. I just stick with the ones I find easier to read and understand.

Sarah, I am okay with the Bible being translated into different languages. It has to be. I just don't know why there are so many different versions in English. And I really don't like the writing style or any version. Just doesn't seem to be a book that's for me- that's the best way I can explain it.
