I don't know if I'm in a cult but it seems like it. I go to the NY church of God. I'm so confused right now… I mean.. many things that we do are based in the Bible and really, If this church is not correct, then who is? But there are many things that I see that are not correct.
The sisters … the brothers… everybody is so arrogant, everybody just wants to please the pastor of the church. Even when the pastor says something that everybody knows is not correct, everybody still says "yes" (because we have to be obedient).
I mean.. I understand we have to be obedient… but we cant be robots.
I'm so confused about the "Being robots" thing. We can't have "our own mind" but also we have to "have a mind". If we do something without asking the pastor there is a problem because "we had our own mind". If we dont do something because we had to ask the pastor its also a problem because "we had no mind".
Also the pastor is pretty much a racist. He says we have to preach to "White people" and everybody just smiles. When we have to take a picture "White people" have to be in front. If somebody that is white does something that is bad he might forgive it. If somebody that is black does the same thing … he was ghetto and has to be kicked out. I guess he doenst understand that even "white people" feel bad when he treats them like tool for PR and "black people" feel bad too. He says that we have to preach to white people because we are in america, so we have to preach to americans…. blacks, hispanics, etc etc are also americans but he doesnt care.
Also something that makes me so uncomfortable is his relationship with the sisters. He is always so close to the girls. He pays much more attention to us than to the brothers and we have to go to the pastor for every little thing.
He is also always talking bad about the other church of god in america. It's like a west coast vs east coast thing. He is always trying to exalt himself and mentions how the other pastors have no idea about anything.
The leaders of the church are always talking about how we have to "bear fruit" and that we dont bear fruit because of our mind, and because we are not relying on Father and Mother… but if its like that, why the leaders dont bear fruit every day? why the pastor doesnt have so many fruits? I guess nobody is that good in the church.
I just feel like venting… I'm just disappointed … I have a couple of recordings of the pastor "rebuking" us… I will upload them when I get the courage. Crazy thing is that I still believe. I still think Mother is God, and I understand we are not perfect… but the doubt is that , if Mother is God, why doenst She just calls the Pastor and tells him to stop being so arrogant?
And just a note… reading through this forum.. It's such a turn off when you guys make fun of Mother or of the church. You guys have to understand we are human beings and not cult leaders. We do believe in this, and you guys instead of helping you make us so upset. Instead of making fun of us, making fun of Mother… maybe try to understand, and if you really think that this is a cult, find a better way to get us out… It might work for new people, but for us that have some time, it just get us upset…
Mr. Anderson, thank you for posting. Believe it or not this act alone takes a lot of courage. If I have made fun of Chang/Zahng I don't remember doing it however, if I have offended please forgive me. The whole subject of a god the mother is heavily disputed on this website and as this is not intended as "making fun" I know that there have been many comments here that do. I hope that you will continue to read the articles and postings on this website as well as some of the other websites you can link to from here. I do believe that God gave us a mind and he expects us to use it. Question everything! Do your own research on everything that you have been taught. Don't take anyones word for it! Your soul is too important to assume that anything that anyone tells you about the things of God are absolute. One of the questions you will see repeated by me in different forum post is, "How much research did you do before you gave your soul to this group?" I have been startled by some of the answers I've gotten. Seems that the influence of this group right at the start trips people so hard that they feel that everything they learned before was wrong and the WMS seems to have all of the answers. People jump right into this without researching what has been told to them. They fall right into a blind faith because the WMS told them that they have the "truth" and everyone else is following lies. This is where this group starts falling into the definition of a cult. Cults claim to have a hidden or special knowledge that no one else has. It's their way or you are somehow lost. The fact that you are seeing some of the problems in your group means that there is a good chance that you can break free from this. Another thing that a cult group does is label their message as "The Truth". By doing this it makes anything that contradicts them something other than the truth. If it's not the truth then it must be a lie. If it's a lie and Satan is the father of all lies then the people contradicting the group must be following Satan. I hope you can see the trap this sets in peoples minds. It falls right back to the it's our way or you're lost senario. Mr. Anderson, take heart. You are on the right track just make sure that you know for yourself what the real truth is. You work out your own salvation with fear and trembling. One other thing, you are not going to find any church or group that has the truth. We are all flawed and imperfect thus any interpretation will be flawed and imperfect. What you need to do is find a church and / or group that loves Jesus, has no expectations from you, and is seeking to do what is right. One other thing, separate yourself from this group, its influence, and any of its control. This is going to be the only way you will be able to research the truth for yourself. I hope I have been helpful and feel free to PM me anytime you want. My family has been through this and having others to talk to could be a great help to you in this time.

The reason they want you to be asking every little thing to the pastor is because the pastor is suppose to know what is happening everywhere. I know what are you talking about been there…know NJ Zion too much. They even fight for who is going to make breakfast for him on Sunday when they have preaching assembly or an activity.

AGAIN as I said so many of us have left because of that. He is always saying that because he is actually closer to the Brothers and what he does is to be close to that DICONESS that is his right hand and makes all sisters trust all their lives to her and then she tells him everything. WATCH OUT! to who you tell your doubts questions or confess anything because if that person is close to her she will tell him. Information has its own way to get to him.

I really want to apologize to you if there is anything that makes you upset that you have seen in this website. As you see the points of views of people in this website are very different than yours. I still have someone in that exact location that I miss so much and that I hope everything goes well with her. And I really got very close to many of the sisters and still they dont know where did I go or what happened to me. I feel sad for them many left their careers, families to be in there for that experience that you are living. Be careful and do not let them know that you came to this website or you will get another rebuke and they will think about you as a lost case. I know what you mean about you still believe in Mother but you know what God is God and knows our hearts. If you wrote in this website is because you feel there is something wrong in there and you cannot figure out what it is. Yet you see everyone sacrificing so much for their salvation right? you see people loving each other right? those are good things but still something wrong there. Let me tell you what is wrong there is that is not a true place to stay everyone is looking for their own interest and to look good in the pastor's eyes. You are confused about whether have your own mind or not let me tell you something GOD CREATED YOUR MIND and God knows what you going to think before you even where born and GOD also made us GIRLS very sensitive to environments and people's attitudes, we can tell when something wrong is going on. And that SISTER is what you are realizing I hope you get out there soon and when you do contact me if you need anything. When I left I had no support of no body I lost the SISTERS too but now we are so many that REALIZED that they were doing something WRONG that in this side of the world you still have people that CARES.
The COG isn’t exactly innocent when it comes to making fun of people who aren’t apart of their organization. I will admit that some of the teasing can be a bit excessive though. Mr. Anderson, this probably doesn’t matter but are you male or female? You handle says mr implying you are male but in your post you included yourself with the sisters saying the pastor pays more attention to us. Like I said, it probably doesn’t matter but I’m just wondering.
I do need to say about mocking mother, in my zion almost everyone made fun of people "how hard is it to count to seven" and stuff much meaner than what most people here say. If anone says something genuinely disrespectful, not to be confused with disagreeing of course, I am sure if you just express your feelings we can be more cognizent of our actions, none of us intend to offend WMSCOG members, we are only here to help
Anderson, all you have to do is reasearch cults. Nothing new here, just the characters at the center. As far as white people go, to them, they represent money and naïveté . Better known as [USEFUL IDIOTS]. Most everyday garden variety Koreans would tell them to f%^k off in a heart beat. That's why they don't mess with them. They know they know basically. Let them be and walk away Sir or Ma'am, walk away.
Hal I remember once in mumbai we were taking a group snap after the service the pastor there arranged all the people in rows ,there was one sister who was burnt over her face he told me to tell that sister who was in front to go back in between,i asked him why he told me these snaps are send to diffrent zions all over the world and we dont wont people to think it is the poor or ugly people who come to zion even if you have seen in korea they put all their favorites in front.All i want to say they are a total fake hypocryties. and the biggest joke of them all what are the rules to become a large/small group leader is do not complain to other leaders or to the assembley in korea only tell the pastor your problems all i would say a total mind control cult and if he gets to know anything through any leader or members he will say father and mother let me known no one can hid anything from god.
Yea, my missionary told me to wear makeup when I went to zion. If not everytime then at least every sabbath. Especially since I was in the choir. He didn’t have many followers as I see it. Not many people truly believed he was god. Its not that ugly people won’t bear fruit. Its that pretty people bear more fruit. But I was being silly when I said it. Idk why my missionary preferred me to wear makeup
