In talking to parents who have a spouse in the wmscog, I have come across something that is very hard to hear. A parent told me that their spouse in the church is saying that the children (even as young as around a year old) are expected to fast at certain times. I know for a fact that fasting is something the wmscog expects the adults to do as part of their "spiritual growth" and as part of some celebrations. I know of a man who was being encouraged to go on a 3 day,( or even more if he would agree), food AND water fast for his "spiritual growth." This man was told that the pastor fasted for 5 days this way, and the "Mother" even did it for 7 days. Food AND water? That is extremely unhealthly, even if it was just the food, but to also include water is just not acceptable. What kind of real church would expect it's members to do something like this? And then to insist that the children fast as well? I feel that deprivation of sleep, food, water, etc., would make people more pliable and susceptible to mind control techniques. It is my opinion that this is why these things are promoted in the wmscog.
It is very hard to fathom, but it is entirely believable because I have heard this numerous times from different people in different parts of the country where wmscog churches ply their trade.
Can anyone else confirm what I am hearing about this practice? Especially about the children being expected to fast, when they probably don't even understand what fasting is?

HobbitParticipantWell. I can tell you that we do 3 day fasts a couple times a year. Our fast mean no food and no water. Sometimes after the three days the whole church gather together, prays together and then eat together.
I can tell you that it's very difficult. By the third day you have no strength. But we are taught that we get stronger spiritually even though physically we get weaker. I've heard that if you promise you will do a 3 days fast, but you don't finish it, that Mother has to finish it for you. That makes pretty much no member want to break the fast.
About children, I know before some children would do it. In my branch lately they made mother's sign a document saying that the church didnt tell them to make their children fast and that the church discourages members from doing it. But I think that was only done for legal reasons, after all, children are the least of the church's worries.
I've heard that mother has done 7 days fast a couple of times. Do I believe it? Not really. But can't prove she didn't. They say she fasts a lot… but she doesnt look that skinny to me.

MountainMomParticipantThanks, Hobbit. It seems like a red flag to parents that they would have to sign a document saying that the church didn't tell them to make their children fast! Seems like that clears the church for abuse, but not the parents. Still, I am of the opinion that the parents wouldn't have their children doing it unless their leaders were telling them to. The parents don't think of these things on their own, as they are told to "stop thinking with their own minds", but to "be obedient" and "think with the mind of Mother." And I know of one parent in particular who is insisting that his very young children will be fasting as the adults do. He just decided this on his own when he has to be 100% "obedient?" I don't think so.

MountainMomParticipantI find it strange that this church tries to have their members sign non-disclosure agreements when they leave and sign "documents" saying they aren't encouraged to have their children fast, etc. They seem like they are trying to stay one step ahead of the law all the time. Hmmmm…….

HobbitParticipantIf you were going to date somebody and he would make you sign a document that says "If I ever rape you, you can't tell anybody", I don't think you would date him. But when you are a member of the wms you don't think rationally like that. I've signed documents that i've never read, and I honestly dont think many people has read them.
I wonder if all these docuemnts are just to scare us or if they are actually legal. I guess we'll wait and see

MountainMomParticipantThe documents they have you sign are very likely not worth the paper they are printed on. That has been the case with the non-disclosure agreements, so I hear.

DisturbedParticipantIn my years of membership I never heard with my ears any Korean members tell parents that children should fast. Members who had “mature faith” would tell newer members “it’s according to your faith” when it comes to making children fast. It was implied that they should since “babies/children” have souls also. I have seen mothers make their infants fast like everyone else. As far as I know all of the children fasted, unless the parents were discreetly feeding them.
On the feast days when the whole church was fasting they would remove access to water, soda & coffee sources and no food would be brought out of the kitchen until we broke the fast together.
Those Koreans are always trying to keep their hands clean. They won’t tell you things directly. They will have a non Korean tell you or plant stories to be told to you.

MountainMomParticipantExactly what I was thinking. Another thing that is required, but not told directly by a church leader so that they can deny it. If it was truly "according to their faith" they wouldn't have to remove access to food, water, etc., while the rest are fasting.

Curious1ParticipantAll I know about the fasting that it is a couple of times a year, in my opinion only for one day. To my knowledge sick people and kids don't have to fast, eldery kids over 12, if they want to, they can. I never have fasted, because I love food to much. I've never had to sign a paper when I left, although I didn't leave officialy, I just never went again. Signing a document about fasting is also new for me. A lot of different opinions and experiences of people about this subject.

For a church that is "completely controlled by God", they have too many different versions. At the church that I go to, we do half day fast during "Father's ascension day" aka, the day Ahnsahnghong ate the noodles and choke to death, and during the feast of unleavened bread.
We do 3 days fast as a group for big things. Usually when we havent bore a lot of fruit, or when we want our team to bear a lot of fruit and sometimes right before the Passover. Individually you can do it at any time, but I've been recommended to tell a team leader or group leader in the past, so they know im doing it. Also, we don't do three days fast during the feasts of God.
The three days fast is without food nor drink. If you need to take medicine they recommend you then to only do the last day of the fast and not the three days.
They are NOT mandatory, but when you do it for the first time, everybody just says how big your faith is, which makes you think that fasting = faith, and that's the reason why people always join in it.
Sometimes after the three days fast we have called Mother to korea to bless us for the fast, but not always.

So for every meal that you skip, she must eat what you didn't? That's a very demanding task.
She's handling it quite well obviously ๐
But that's cuz she loves us ^^
And by us I mean chicken wings.

MountainMomParticipantLol! They had to call Mother to ask for a blessing for the fast! They couldn't just pray and she would hear. it is so hard to imagine how controlled you have to be to find a way to justify having to call God on a cell phone. Yet some very intelligent people are tricked into this. It is a phenomenon.

Well, it's not hard to justify. What I would tell a member if he asks me that is that when Jesus was in the earth, the disciples would go to him when they had any question, and Jesus said "follow me". And I would use a verse taken out of context like Isaiah 55:6 "Seek the LORD while he may be found; call on him while he is near."
There's always a way to prove craziness! And more when you've been doing it for years.

Sarah2013ParticipantI don't think kids need to fast but that's me. I'm not God. Please note my key word is "need to" and not shouldn't.

When Jesus was on earth, he saw Nathanael under a fig tree while he was physically out of sight. Can Chang do that?

Of course she can. She had to go trough so much suffering because of us, she cries every night, you know. But now that we can be reunited with her we should start giving back whatever we can. Share the heavenly love!!
I hope that answers your question ^^

Oh! that's because she can't find her hearing aid. And without it, she can't hear everyone's prayers. All you wmscog members, better pray when it is day time in Seoul.

reydelavozParticipantGod doesnt need hearing aids….You know she is mother god….where is the Purity she should be able to heal anyone Jesus healed everyone he came upon…

You don't know that. Soul has a busy nightlife. And after a night in a Norebang everyone needs a hearing aid XD
All kidding aside I think I saw her at a casino once, but I wasn't sure I should approach her, cause you know.. all asians look the same.
In retrospect a little footage of her gambling away our tithes would have been helpful.
