So there’s a program on TLC called Breaking Amish. These kids left the Amish community and describe how people from their old community treat them. Anyway they are treated the same way we are when we leave “the society”. They “shun” ex members. They treat ex members like outsiders. It’s so bizarre since we’re taught to “have the love of mother”. If they are so concerned about our salvation why don’t they speak to us. I never thought about it when I saw members leave. I believe whatever lie that was concocted to explain why a member left. Once I became the ex member I had lots of guilt towards those I “shunned”. They didn’t deserve that.

One Amish mother made a statement that they consider themselves Christians but is upset that her fellow Amish don’t show Christian behavior towards those who left. I know we are all sinners, no one is perfect. I hope there comes a time when we can unite truly as brothers & sisters and have love towards one another. I know in my heart I felt love for everyone that was in the zions I was in.

It seems they’ll try and get you back, until it’s clear that you’ve broken the spell. Then you’re shunned. At least that’s what I’ve observed of wmscog. I don’t know about the Amish though, don’t they have some custom where they get to leave and live as outsiders, then decide if they want to come back?

I’m not sure about this program-if they’re allowed to decide to come back. It was my first time watching. I was stunned by the overall similarities in how they treat those who decide to “break tradition” and leave.

Like I said in a previous post one lesson I will surely take away from this experience is the value of family and friends. My family & friends who stuck by me during my time in the society gave unconditional love to me. I didn’t show “the love of mother” towards them the many times I preached. I was really angry inside because I felt they weren’t listening & didn’t want to receive salvation. Despite all my “hounding” of them to get the Seal, they never left my side. I believe True God was trying to show me (through my family) that even though I left His side due to being deceived He never left me. He gives unconditional love always and we too have to love others.

I wanted to watch that also, sorry I missed it. I thought there would be allot of simularities.  that is what makes it a "cult"
